Sustained Investigation AP Drawing Portfolio
For the AP Drawing exam, students are asked to create a portfolio of work following a single “sustained investigation” wherein they show materials and processes alongside practice, experimentation, and revision. Below is my inquiry and portfolio for which I got a score of 4/5.
How do maturity and new experiences distort memories? I want to investigate how to portray events in my life with the influence of time and insight. This includes repeating symbols to show the influence of childhood and how I have sustained myself, whether that’s how I am cared for or how I use art, nature, and self-expression as an outlet. I create portraits and landscapes to show the impactful events I experienced growing up. I use surrealism to create warped versions of memories and dreamlike imagery; memories are complex and ungrounded and I don’t want to portray them as clear or concrete.
